The expanse of the inspiring high-lying valley can be experienced in a particularly striking way on the two 18-hole golf courses in Samedan and Zuoz. Cross-country skiers will find over 220km (137 miles) of perfectly groomed trails in the Upper Engadin and the side valleys. The winter hiking paths and cross-country ski trails on the frozen Upper Engadin lakes are characterised by their light, sunshine and space amidst inspiring Alpine scenery. Those who would like to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the snow-covered forests can explore the side valleys of Val Roseg, Val Fex or Val Bever on 150 kilometres (90 miles) of winter hiking paths. Visitors who prefer to have everything in view, meanwhile, will delight in the breathtaking vistas on the panorama hiking trails high above the lakes on Muottas Muragl.

Sils is a place overflowing with life energy; this can actually be scientifically measured. But why bother when you are anyway guaranteed to fall under the spell of the landscape at first sight?
Writers such as Nietzsche, artists like Beuys, and musicians such as David Bowie drew inspiration from the wonderful open spaces and the magical light here, and each played a considerable role in establishing Sils as the cultural centre of the Engadin.
