While it is the second smallest district of Vienna, it is densely populated and a mixture of lively shopping streets, relaxed cafés and historic buildings gives it a distinct, charming feel. Main sights include the Mariahilfer Church, Haydn House, where famous composer Joseph Haydn lived and composed, Theater an der Wien, Raimund Theater, and the House of the Sea (Haus des Meeres).
